Better Posture is a definite buzz-phrase flying around all corners of the fitness world. It's a hot topic now because improving posture and mobility has recently become a popular goal for people with all types of fitness backgrounds...
...The specific reasons for wanting to develop better posture vary from person to person. For example:
- Bodybuilders want to develop a more aesthetic default posture; they want to be able to do exercises that require good mobility so they can target certain muscle groups (e.g. face pulls to target lower traps and rear delts)
- Powerlifters want to maximize leverages to throw around the heaviest weights possible on the platform during competition day
- Crossfitters want to improve their movement efficiency
- And even the “normies” out there not involved with training, but are just looking for a cure for lower back pain.
The big issue here is that there's a shortage of actionable advice for improving posture on the internet. What you will find, though, is plenty of advice vague, oversimplified or just plain wrong.
It seems like no one really understands how to actually develop and implement a strategy to functionally improve posture.
